Vein Treatment

Vein treatments have rapidly moved away from painful surgical procedures to ultrasound guided treatments performed in the office through a tiny opening. Our treatments are safe, effective, and do not require anesthesia or sedation.

With the same service and level of care our physicians have become known for as MBB Radiology care providers, we tailor specific treatments to our patients based on a detailed ultrasound evaluation. Our physicians will take the time to discuss your treatment options and answer all your questions.

Compression Therapy

Compression therapy using medical compression stockings is an important part of treating vein disease. They help provide an additional squeeze to return blood from the legs back to the heart. While they can be very helpful for improving symptoms, sometimes a more definitive procedure is required to remove the veins which are already unhealthy.

A trial of compression stockings is often required by insurance companies before vein ablation. Compression stockings are essential for a short amount of time post treatment to help in vein healing. We have carefully selected the best compression stockings and our physicians can help determine the proper strength necessary.

Endovenous Laser Ablation

After numbing both the vein and the skin, a small catheter is placed under ultrasound guidance into the diseased vein. In just a few minutes the entire vein can be treated with a laser — also known as a vein ablation — and this causes the vessel to close and your symptoms to resolve. The majority of patients experience instant relief.

Sclerotherapy Treatment

A quick and nearly painless way to eliminate the visible veins on your legs, sclerotherapy is a technique that can be performed even if you don’t have more serious vein disease. It involves putting a tiny amount of FDA approved medications directly into the vein which helps seal it off for immediate results. While this is often a cosmetic treatment, some insurance companies will cover the procedure. Sclerotherapy is just one of the many options that will be discussed as we personalize your treatment plan.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Typically used after or in combination with venous ablation, an ambulatory phlebectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that helps to remove any prominent bulging veins to help resolve the symptoms and achieve good cosmetic results. This procedure removes the vein through tiny, imperceptible incisions made along the vein path. Similar to the vein ablation, there are no stitches, no downtime and it is performed with local anesthesia. Best of all, the results are immediate!

Varicocele Treatment / Embolization

Catheter-directed varicocele embolization is a nonsurgical treatment which helps to eliminate the blood flow within the diseased vein and avoid a surgical incision into the scrotum. The treatment is performed through a vein in the neck or groin- leaving only a band-aid with an immediate return to normal daily activities.

What can I expect?

At Coastal Vein we understand that while we see vein treatments every day, this is a new experience for you. The most important thing is the procedures that we perform are fast, safe and very effective. Many times the best results require a combination of treatments. No matter the treatment in your personalized plan, here are a few things that you can expect on your treatment day.

  • Local anesthetic – there are no diet or activity restrictions
  • Use of ultrasound to guide the small laser catheter into the vein
  • Laser vein treatments cause little to no pain
  • No stitches – small steri-strips, bandages and compression stocking are used
  • Treatment time is usually less than 30 minutes
  • You should be able to immediately return to normal activities – for some people it might take 1-2 days
